20mph Execptions

20mph exceptions confirmed

In preparation for the implementation of Welsh Government’s new 20mph legislation on 17 September 2023, Flintshire County Council, undertook an assessment of local roads against current national guidance.

As a result of this assessment the following were identified:

  • sections of a small number of roads that had the potential for existing speed limits to be increased above 30mph, and

  • sections of roads that could be considered ‘exceptions’ to Welsh Government’s new 20mph legislation.

Earlier this summer Flintshire County Council formally consulted the public on the Traffic Regulation Orders related to these roads.

Responses received during the consultation process have now been impartially considered and the outcome of the statutory formal process has determined that the following stretches of road will now progress as outlined below.

Sections of road to increase to 40mph

·      Drury Lane, Buckley

·      Bannel Lane Buckley – the extents of the proposal have been shortened

·      Padeswood Road South, Buckley

·      Station Road, Talacre – the extents of the proposal have been shortened

Sections of road which meet Welsh Government’s 20mph ‘Exceptions’ criteria and which will revert to 30mph

·      A549 Mold Road, Mynydd Isa

·      A549 Chester Road / Dirty Mile - Little Mountain, Buckley

·      B5127 Liverpool Road, Buckley

·      B5128 Church Road, Buckley

·      St Davids Park, Ewloe – the extents of the proposal have been shortened.

·      A5026 Holway Road, Holywell

·      B5121 Greenfield Road, Holywell

Full details of the sections of road listed above,  where speed limits are to change, can be found on the Council’s website.

The revised speed limits at the locations listed above will not come into force until all appropriate signage has been erected on site.  This work will be undertaken over the coming weeks.
