Old School Site

We are pleased to be able to communicate with our residents that we have received correspondence from Flintshire County Council in respect of transferring part of the former school land to the community. The Community Council initiated talks with FCC back in December 2018 and together with past and present County Councillor's have continued to pursue FCC.

FCC have proposed a section of land which they would be willing to discuss in relation to a future transfer on a long lease which needs to be fully reviewed, considered and approved by the Community Council before the legal process of transfer can commence.

FCC are in the process of seeking Welsh Government funding for the remaining school areas to be demolished and cleared.

The full statement from Flintshire County Council is below:

Flintshire County Council is to offer part of the old Penyffordd CP school site on Chester Road to the Community Council.

Talks have been ongoing for some time and the Council is proposing to gift the site to the Community Council. It is hoped that part of the site will be used for social housing with the help of funding from Welsh Government.

Leader of the Council, Councillor Ian Roberts, said: “I am pleased that we have been able to make this offer to the community of Penyffordd and show our commitment to working with the community for the benefit of all local residents.”

Local ward members, Councillor Cindy Hinds and Councillor Alasdair Ibbotson, said: “We are glad to have played a role in ensuring this land is available to our community and have worked closely with Flintshire to gain new green space for our village.

Penyffordd has a lack of public green space and this agreement will help fix that. We also welcome the fact that the built up area will be used for social housing.”
